Five great ways to personalise your wedding venue

Bruisyard Hall’s GM Alan Sabol likes to see things get personal, particularly when it comes to wedding venue, and he has some great advice for adding that personal touch to your own wedding…

Whether you’re tying the knot at a place that’s got a lot of character and history, such as Bruisyard Hall, or somewhere else, you’re probably eager to put your own stamp on things. It’s important to find ways to ensure your special day reflects who you are. So here are some wonderful ideas to help you break out of the boilerplate wedding mould and put a bit of yourself into your big day.

Personalise those table settings. What are your hobbies? If you’re an avid reader, get some beautiful books to use as place settings. Love films? Little movie trivia cards are great ice breakers. Whatever it is you’re passionate about, share it on those tables, and even create a memorable memento for your guests to take home.

Find a theme. What best evokes your life and loves? Are you a fan of the great outdoors? Would a woodland theme represent you best? Does the Jazz era speak to you with its glamour and decadence? Finding a theme gives you a way of bringing everything together whilst showing your guests a bit of yourself.

Create your own drink. You don’t have to be Tom Cruise to create a great cocktail. You don’t even need to be an expert mixologist. If you’re a lover of spirits, and you like to mix things up, why not create your own unique cocktail for the big day? It will get the party going, and you’ll forevermore be immortalised as a beverage. Something to enjoy on your anniversary too, perhaps?

DJ the event. If you hire a DJ, or band, you can add your own favourites into the playlist, and indulge your own particular brand of cheese and guilty pleasures. Hair metal? 80s ballads? It’s all permitted, and after a few cocktails, most of your guests will be up and dancing away regardless.

Mix up the entertainment. DJs, cover bands and the photobooth's are the norm for weddings these days. It’s all great fun, but if you want to add the personal touch, there are plenty of other quirky options. You could hire a caricaturist, a close-up magician, or even a brass band to provide entertainment. It’s a sure-fire way to stand out and give your guests a lasting memory.
