On your tour, led by a member of the Rous family, you will learn about the fascinating history of Bruisyard Hall and its connection to the family.
Track the captivating history of this enchanting building from its origins as 'Roke Hall’ - which was given by Lionel, Duke of Clarence, brother of The Black Prince and son of King Edward III, to a college of chantry priests in 1354. On to its ownership by the Hare family in the 1540's - having been confiscated from Maud of Lancaster's Poor Clare nuns by Henry XIII. Right through to its inheritance by Peter Rous in 1947 prior to his emigration to Rhodesia in 1958 when it passed to the current branch of the Rous family. (You can read more about the history of Bruisyard Hall here).
A beautifully told tale that takes visitors on an epic journey including priest holes, secret rooms, ancient graffiti and about as much character as one house can have.
